A Marine veteran shot a suspected burglar he caught climbing in through the back bedroom window of his west Harris County home.
It happened just before 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 4200 block of Barossa Valley Lane and S. Vineyard Lane.
“I knew somebody was up to no good," Dan Reynolds said. Reynolds was home alone when he heard a rock being thrown through his back bedroom window.
He grabbed his 12-gauge shotgun, went to investigate and says he did not hesitate to pull the trigger when he saw a man in a hoodie climbing in through the shattered window.
“He's not robbing me. He didn't say anything. I didn't say anything. I shot him and he fell back out the window and ran away,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds says the blast hit the intruder square in the chest. The 31-year-old says he was already on alert since his home was broken into about three weeks ago. He wasn’t home at the time so the thieves made out like bandits.
“Laptops, tablets, stereo, phones, iPods, a TV," Reynolds said, adding that he wasn’t about to let it happen again.
Reynolds tells Local 2 he has no regrets and says he was carrying a pistol with him, just in case he ran out of shotgun shells.
“Some people protect their homes. If you come by and want to rob, people that's what you get. He probably won’t come back, but if he does, we'll handle that then," Reynolds said.
