KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Investigators with the Knoxville Police Department said the man who admitted to shooting a 41-year-old man did so in self-defense.
Wallace Hann is in serious condition at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Just after 2:30 am Sunday morning, officers responded to a shots fired call on Lawson Avenue in North Knoxville
Interviews with witnesses and the shooter, Doug Williams, said Hann had been breaking into vehicles in the North Knoxville neighborhood, according to KPD.
Williams said Hann threatened him, so he opened fire.
A neighbor had found a trail of blood leading from one home to the back yard of another house.
Officers found Hann behind bushes in the yard with several gunshot wounds. There was a child's backpack next to Hann, one that had been reported as stolen.
The Knox County District Attorney's Office hasn't decided to charge the accused shooter, citing self-defense.
There are not charges against Hann as of yet.
