Police said a homeowner in Gastonia shot and killed a man who they claimed was trying to break into their home Thursday night.
GASTONIA, N.C. — A Gastonia homeowner shot and killed a man who was allegedly trying to break into his home late Thursday night, police said.
The Gastonia Police Department responded to a 911 call for a shooting at a home on Crescent Lane, near New Castle Road, a little after 10:30 p.m. The caller told dispatchers that a man was trying to break in when another person inside the house shot him.
When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old Frankie Carl Jones outside the front door suffering from a gunshot wound. Jones, who is from Charlotte, was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators allege that Jones was armed with a handgun when he got to the house and confronted a man at the front door. The man who was inside the home then shot Jones, according to police.
The investigation remains active. It's unclear if the person who fired shots will face any charges at this time.
