Kansas Self-Defense: Gun owner stops burglary :: 11/01/2016

One man was arrested after being held at gunpoint Monday afternoon in Newton.

According to the Newton Police Department, when they arrived at the scene of an alleged car burglary at about 3:30 p.m. in the 1700 Block of N. Main, they found a man being held at gunpoint by another Newton resident.

The alleged burglar was, according to police, intoxicated when he started looking through a car he did not own.

"A citizen who believes in his second amendment rights held (the suspect) at gunpoint until we got there," said Lt. Scott Powell of the Newton Police Department.

The gun wielding citizen responded to police officer commands whent hey arrived. He was not detained. The alleged burglar was arrested. Powell could not confirm the burglar's identity.
