"NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is going on trial on federal bribery charges.
The trial is scheduled to start Monday. Nagin is at the center of a corruption case that mushroomed at the end of his second term and led to several other guilty pleas or convictions.
Prosecutors allege that the 57-year-old Nagin accepted free trips and more than $200,000 in bribes from contractors in exchange for helping them secure lucrative city contracts."
So, dear reader, you ask, "why should I care?" Because while Mayor of New Orleans, Nagin was a member of (drum roll) Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Darn, Bloomberg sure knows how to pick his friends. The list of MAIG mayors facing serious criminal charges continues to grow, as does prosecution of these characters. Its so bad that the current MAIG web-page doesn't even list them by name. There's a little crawler box that throws the name of the towns up for you to see. What does MAIG have to hide???
