Red Flag Laws - A Way Around Repealing the 2nd Amendment :: 12/29/2018

In a previous article, I wrote about the effects that have happened when countries have confiscated or banned private gun ownership. That article sparked comments on how such a thing could never happen in the U.S. But for years, there has been a movement to restrict private gun ownership. Granted, no outright ban has been enacted, and few if any politicians would try to propose such a draconian measure, but there have been moves at the edges of the Second Amendment that have taken hold.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has gotten more judges confirmed to federal appeals courts in his first two years in office than any president in modern history. With 30 new circuit judges on the bench, and a dozen nominees pending in the Senate, Trump has more than made good on a campaign promise to reshape the judiciary.

7 facts about guns in the U.S. :: 12/28/2018

Guns are deeply ingrained in American society. The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution gives Americans the right to bear arms, and around three-in-ten American adults personally own a gun. Most of these gun owners say the right to own firearms is essential to their own personal sense of freedom.

Information has taken on a whole new meaning in the digital age, a time when sensitive data is either too easily accessible or not accessible enough. This issue of access to information encompasses fundamental human rights – specifically the freedom of speech as well as the right to privacy.

A Tough Year for Gun Owners, Another Looms on Horizon :: 12/28/2018

America’s gun owners may be particularly eager to celebrate the end of 2018 next Monday night, because for Second Amendment activists, it has been a tough year, and with Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi preparing to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, the next 12 months could be rough as well.

A Year of Evil and Saviors :: 12/28/2018

I was studying people who cause mass murder and the people who stop it. That study is unpleasant but necessary. Sometimes I find it revolting. I can’t study it for hours each day. I’m glad I have a choice to set it aside. I can step away from evil and see the amazing joys in life. Not everyone is so lucky. Here is my gratitude to those who face evil every day.

Credit Cards and Guns: One Last Point :: 12/27/2018

The New York Times’ Christmas Eve feature about mass shooters buying guns with credit cards has already been ably dismantled by Kevin WilliamsonDavid French, and just about everyone I follow on Twitter, but I wanted to add a quick point. Specifically, these few paragraphs from the Times story are important but seldom noted by the piece’s critics (emphases mine):

How The Left Manipulates Facts To Advance The Narrative :: 12/27/2018

Anti-gunners love to distort facts. In fairness, they’re far from the only ones who do it, but anti-gun leftists are especially fond of this tactic. Personally, I think they’re so good at it that they do it on a subconscious level, never realizing they’re knee-deep in a delusion.

Trump More Of A Gun Control President Than Obama :: 12/27/2018

To say there’s anger over President Trump’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives changing the rules over bump stocks is an understatement. While there isn’t the kind of outrage you’d see if he’d tried to ban semi-autos by fiat, there’s still a lot of hostility out there, and for good reason. We don’t like our supposedly uninfringeable rights being infringed.

Math Professor Changes Equation On Home Invasion :: 12/26/2018

If there’s one scenario more than any other that prompts people to own a firearm, it’s probably home invasions. I don’t have hard data on that or anything, just an impression based on my experiences talking with people through the years.

Article Two (the Second Amendment) was written as a proscription against government intrusion upon and usurpation of the Natural Rights of Man, because “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms” is the most formidable line of defense against government intrusion on those rights.

Credit-Card Companies Can't Stop Mass Shootings :: 12/24/2018

One of the things that really pushes my fringe-libertarian, move-to-Idaho, shoebox-full-of-Swiss-francs-and-a-.45 buttons is the progressive project to use the financial system to secure political goals that the Left cannot achieve through ordinary democratic means or because of such inconveniences as the Bill of Rights. The New York Times is attempting to revive one of those projects today with an essay arguing that the credit-card business should be used as a political tool for gun control.
