Which Candidate is the Most Dangerous to the Second Amendment? :: 07/18/2019

United States – -(AmmoLand.com)- When it comes to those who wrongly attack the God-given rights protected by Constitution, including the right to keep and bear arms covered by the Second Amendment, there is the question as to who is the most dangerous. The short and easy answer is, “It depends on the electoral circumstances.” But that answer is arguably TOO short and simple. Reality tends to be a bit more complex.

A Weak New Gun Study :: 07/17/2019

This morning a lot of websites are touting a new study in Pediatrics that claims various forms of gun control reduce “pediatric” firearm deaths. By this the researchers mean deaths among all Americans aged 21 and under. (As I’ve pointed out before, also in the context of gun research in Pediatrics, even when you limit the age range to 18, you’re mainly talking about older teens, not young kids.)

More Guns, Less Crime In California’s Concealed Carry Capitol :: 07/17/2019

One of the fundamental beliefs of gun control activists is that “more guns equals more crime”.  The only problem is that isn’t true.  At all.  There are somewhere around 400-million privately owned firearms in the United States, and while that number has soared over the past few decades, violent crime rates have declined dramatically.  The same holds true for concealed carry and violent crime.  It’s estimated there are now more than 17-million concealed carry licensees across the country, and violent crime continues to drop.  In Florida, for example, the homicide rate was 11.4 per 100,000 people when right to carry laws went into effect in 1987.  By 2017, there were well over one million concealed carry holders in the state, and the homicide rate had fallen to 5.0 per 100,000.

New Jersey's new smart gun law is a disaster in the making :: 07/17/2019

As soon as New Jersey’s new Democratic governor, Phil Murphy, arrived in office he began working with the Democratic majority in the legislature to pass onerous gun control laws. Not satisfied with that effort, he’s now rolled out a new package of legislation along the same lines, referring to it as “Gun Safety Package 2.0.” One of the chief elements of this new legislation deals with so-called “smart guns” and mandates regarding their availability in the Garden State. New Zealand Encounters Problems Enforcing Gun Ban without Registration :: 07/17/2019

New Zealand -(Ammoland.com)- New Zealand attempted controls on firearms ownership from 1845 to 1885. It was not very effective.  From 1885 to 1912, the arms control law was generally a dead letter. From 1912 to 1945 arms control was again attempted, primarily as a means of preventing revolution. From 1945 to 1965, there was again a peaceful enjoyment of firearms with few controls in New Zealand. There were registration controls on the books, but they proved ineffective. Because of increasing crime rates, from the middle 1960's to 1983, the New Zealand police struggled with the ineffective registration system.  The information was obtained from the 1997 study of its gun control history.

Shocker: Anti-Gun Senator Is Writing Anti-Gun Book :: 07/17/2019

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy has long been a fan of more gun control laws, and a longtime opponent of a robust right to keep and bear arms. In Senator Murphy’s world, you can ban the most commonly sold rifle in the U.S. without infringing on anyone’s 2nd Amendment rights. You can require Americans to get a permission slip from the government before owning a firearm and not step on the right to own a firearm. In fact, I’ve yet to see a gun control proposal introduced that Senator Murphy’s actually found objectionable.

Anti-Gunners: What Democrats should say about guns :: 07/16/2019

The United States is gun country. About 40 percent of Americans live in a gun-owning household. The United States has 4.4 percent of the world’s population, but almost half — 42 percent — of civilian-owned guns. In the wake of the Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), and a massive public relations and lobbying campaign by the National Rifle Association, support for the Second Amendment right of Americans to bear arms has grown.

New Study Claims Gun Control Reduces Child Deaths. About That… :: 07/16/2019

Over the last day or so, headlines all over the media were touting this new study that supposedly proves that states with strict gun control have fewer “pediatric” deaths from firearm misuse. I put “pediatrics” in quotes because this term is used to apply to anyone under the age of 21, which means a lot of adults fall into this category.

AR-15 Not For Home Defense? Tell This Florida Man That :: 07/15/2019

Usually, when the headline contains the word “Florida Man,” you expect to see something ridiculous. The adventures of Florida Man have reached legendary status and are the stuff of mockery, though Floridians would rather their fellow residents show some restraint. After all, no one wants to be lumped in with some of these people, right?

When he called the Republican-controlled Virginia Legislature to the state Capitol for a special session this week, Virginia’s Democratic Gov. Guns kill people. That’s what we’re told all the time. We’re told the “good guy with a gun” is a myth. The media is filled with stories about how guns are bad. We can find plenty of people who will be happy to tell you that you don’t need a gun to protect yourself or others, that the police will be happy to do that for you.

Red Flag laws and their awful consequences :: 07/14/2019

Since the horrific murders in Parkland, just minutes from my hometown in South Florida, our country has seen a renewed push for more restrictive gun laws. Assault weapon bans, restrictions on the storage of firearms, and pushes for every type of gun law appear at both the federal and state level. While most of these propositions have fizzled out, red flag laws—those allowing police to pre-emptively confiscate a person’s firearms—have exhibited the most staying power.
