A Campus Carry Flashback Reveals Unfounded Fears :: 05/05/2021

Kansas has been in the news lately for its passage of Constitutional Carry legislation, which includes dropping the age for concealed carry to 18 (with a background check, training, and a permit requirement for adults in the 18-20 age group). Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed the legislation, citing “on-campus carry at state colleges and universities as her primary reason for rejecting HB2058.”  Her veto has been overridden by the state Legislature. This has resulted in the usual howls of protest, but at this juncture, it helps to recall what happened in the not-too-distant past.

Anti-Gun Studies And Anti-Gun Shenanigans :: 05/05/2021

I spend a fair bit of time looking at what I call anti-gun studies. For them to be labeled as such, they not just have to have a finding that somehow works against the Second Amendment, but for there to also be some degree of shenanigans in how the data was obtained or presented.

Losing Trust in Politicians and the News Media :: 05/05/2021

The business of politics is to sell favors to influential special interests. That is how politicians like the Clintons, Obamas, and Pelosis became multi-millionaires. Today’s politicians have divided us into so many small factions that the favors they give to one group collide with the special interests they already granted to earlier groups. Simply stated, big-government politicians have made so many excuses for political abuse that they are now contradicting themselves. In theory, the media is supposed to scrutinize politicians rather than cheerlead for ever-greater government corruption. That didn’t happen. The accumulated political contradictions we see today help explain why both politicians and the media have lost our trust. Two more glaring examples caught my eye last week.

Oregon Pro-Gun Rally A Lesson In Media Relations :: 05/04/2021

The media in Oregon isn’t likely to be supportive of the pro-gun position. Especially not in larger cities. That’s the model we see throughout the nation, of course, but in a place like that, it’s likely to be far worse. That means media relations there need to be in every pro-gunners’ mind.

NYTimes: ATF Is Key To Biden's Gun Control Plans :: 05/03/2021

It looks like a confirmation hearing for the former ATF agent turned gun control activists who Joe Biden nominated to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives will take place in just a few weeks, and the administration appears to be engaging in a bit of pre-hearing spin with the help of the New York Times. In a lengthy new piece, reporters Danny Hakim and Mike McIntire portray the agency that oversees our nation’s gun laws and firearms industry as the “whipping boy” for the NRA in years past, but the ATF is now at the heart of Biden’s gun control agenda.

Senate Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act Introduced :: 05/03/2021

On April 29, 2021 Senators Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) joined Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), in introducing a bill called the “Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.” The introduction of this legislation is another step in the direction of freedom. While similar measures have been introduced in the past, it’s important to note that many laws are only instated after the corresponding bill has been introduced a few times. It’s obvious this isn’t a slam dunk to be approved this year, as there will probably not be enough support from left of center congresscritters, but it’s still important to continue to introduce such bills, and honestly, this bill could actually prove to be more popular in the Senate than the background check bills approved by House Democrats earlier this year.

Lawmakers Taking Wrong Lesson From Rise In Violent Crime :: 05/01/2021

The failure of gun control laws to reduce violent crime is never seen by gun control activists as a sign that maybe their ideas aren’t so beneficial after all. Instead, they always assume that the reason why their last round of gun control didn’t work is that it simply didn’t go far enough.
