Washington Self-Defense: Woman armed with a gun, barricades door; says a man tried to break in using steel pipe :: 03/26/2021

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A frightening moment for a Kennewick woman who claims a man tried to break down her front door with a steel pipe in the middle of the afternoon.

Kennewick Police say they were called out at about 1: 20 p.m., to the 2700 block of south Sherman Street on Thursday.

KPD says a woman called about an armed man with a two-by-two steel pipe, who was trying to break down her door.

Police say the woman had a gun and barricaded the back door while waiting for officers.

When investigators arrived, they say Monty Bockman, 65, fled to the back of the home, he was then arrested without any use of force according to police.

Investigators say there's a protection order for one of the residents at the home that prevents Bockman from being there.

Police say Bockman was booked into the Benton County Jail for suspicion of attempted residential burglary and felony order violation.

Kennewick police say they were, "impressed with her great restraint and example of being an armed citizen in our city during a very traumatic event."
