Washington Self-Defense: Grandfather shoots grandson in act of self defense in Federal Way :: 01/16/2020

Police say the 25-year-old grandson was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics at the time he assaulted his 72-year-old grandfather Wednesday night.

One man is in jail after his grandfather shot him in an act of self defense last night in Federal Way, according to police.

Federal Way police responded to reports of a shooting in the 31400 block of 4th Ave. S. around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 15, said FWPD Cmdr. Kurt Schwan. The incident was later found to be a case of domestic violence.

The caller, a 72-year-old male, said he shot his 25-year-old grandson.

“The investigation revealed the grandson was under the influence of narcotics and alcohol at the time and began assaulting the grandfather,” Schwan noted.

Detectives determined the incident was a case of self defense, he added, but once provided with the investigation details, the King County Prosecuting Attorneys Office will make the ultimate decision.

The grandson was transported to Harborview Medical Center and treated for non life-threatening injuries, and he was later booked into jail for domestic violence assault, Schwan stated.
