HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police say an employee shot two suspects as they attempted to rob a store, killing one and wounding the other.
Police got a call to Gift Card ATM store on West Mercury Boulevard near Salem Street at 6:21 p.m. Friday, according to Sergeant Matt Bond.
Officers found Timothy Johnson, 18, suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead on the scene.
Less than a mile away on Seldendale Drive, police found another man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Paramedics took him to the hospital for treatment. He faces multiple charges, which will be announced along with his name when he is released from the hospital, according to Bond.
Investigators say Johnson and the other suspect went into the store to rob it, but a store employee who was legally carrying a gun shot them both.
The store employee was not hurt and is not facing any charges.
No one else was in the business at the time.
