Virginia Self-Defense: Man shot after allegedly attacking landlord with sledge hammer :: 06/28/2016

A man is in serious condition after police say he was shot after allegedly attacked his landlord with a sledge hammer.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a shooting in the 16000 of Harmony Way in Abingdon in reference to a shooting. The initial investigation shows that there had been a domestic violence incident where Billy Little is accused of cutting his girlfriend with a knife. The woman refused medical treatment.

During the incident, Little also became involved in an argument with his landlord. Little is accused of attacking him with a sledge hammer. The landlord then shot Little with a handgun. Little was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center where he remains in serious condition.

Warrants were issued charging Billy Little, 50, with malicious wounding and attempted malicious wounding.

“Preliminary indications are that the shooting appears to have been an act of self-defense,” stated Major Byron Ashbrook.

The investigation remains ongoing.
