Utah Self-Defense: Ogden police treating fatal shooting as self-defense :: 10/25/2017

OGDEN — Ogden police say the fatal shooting of a man over the weekend is being treated as a case of self-defense.

On Saturday, officers responded to the 800 block of 27th Street on a shots fired call about 4:30 p.m. One victim, a man, was found outside and was soon declared deceased. At the time, police announced they were looking for the attacker.

Wednesday, Ogden Police Lt. Danielle Croyle said detectives had talked to that man, and based on witness interviews and evidence collected at the scene, they believe the victim was killed in self-defense. Police have not arrested the gunman. Croyle said they will complete their investigation and turn it over to the Weber County Attorney's Office to determine what, if any, charges should be filed.

She said the two men, who knew each other prior to the shooting, were at a residence with several other people when they got into a verbal argument. The argument then escalated into shots being fired, Croyle said.

No other information was immediately available, including what started the argument.
