Texas Self-Defense: Texas robbery suspect fatally shot by resident :: 09/10/2018

A robbery suspect was shot and killed Sunday night by a resident who told police he was attacked outside his home.

The 23-year-old resident opened fire on the as-yet unidentified man after the suspect assaulted him and threatened to shoot him and his girlfriend, police said.

The suspect died at the scene.

Detectives are working with officials with the Dallas County medical examiner’s office to identify the suspect.

The shooting call was reported about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 3700 block of Hawaii Drive.

The resident told police he and his girlfriend were in front of the residence waiting to purchase a camera that they had seen for sale online.

“We believe the robbery suspect is the same man who contacted the resident about selling the camera,” police Lt. Pedro Barineau said in an email Monday.

While they were outside, an armed suspect walked up to them and demanded money, police said. As the suspect assaulted him, the resident pulled out a handgun and shot him.

The resident was detained at the scene but he was not arrested, police said.

Detectives continue to investigate. No charges have been filed as of Monday.
