Texas Self-Defense: Homeowner fights back in attempted home invasion :: 12/09/2016

An Anderson County homeowner stopped an attempted robbery by shooting at the man trying to enter his home on Wednesday.

"At around 2:15 p.m. in the 5600 block of FM 320, an individual heard someone trying to break in the door of his home," said Sheriff Greg Taylor. "The home owner fired several shots at the individual that he described as a black male, possibly wearing brown coveralls, but he may have changed by now."

The man fled the residence and got into the passenger side of a newer-model silver Impala, Taylor said.

"While fleeing the property, the driver of the car in question wrecked the car, causing extensive damaged to the front grill, the headlight, hood, the passenger door and back fender," said Taylor.

Deputies with the sheriff's office are now combing the area in search of the vehicle with one or more passengers.

The incident began when Anderson County dispatchers received a report of a burglary in progress with shots fired by homeowner at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to scanner traffic, the owner of a house on FM 320 reported to dispatchers that a black male wearing brown coveralls tried to break into his residence.

The homeowner told dispatchers he shot at the would-be intruder and the suspect reportedly got into the passenger side of a beige-colored passenger car.

Deputies were dispatched to the area, searching for the car and the suspect, with possible injuries that was believed to be headed toward CR 645.

Radio traffic reported that the car may have a damaged door that will not fully close.

Sheriff Greg Taylor confirmed at 2:47 p.m. that his department is out searching for a silver or beige passenger car, possibly an Impala, with one or two black males traveling in it.

“We got the call that there was a disturbance at a residence, and we are out looking for a silver or beige vehicle, people sometimes mistake silver for a beige color,” said Taylor. “We are not sure of any details that might have occurred, at this time; we are just searching for the car and the passengers at this point.”

Taylor confirmed that there were no new details in the case late Wednesday night.
