Texas Self-Defense: Gunfight Breaks out During Home Invasion :: 01/30/2015

A gunfight erupted during a home invasion Thursday north of Donna. The incident happened just before 6 a.m. in the 1900 block of Laurel Court. Deputies said four armed men stormed the mobile home.

Two people inside weren't injured.

Sheriff’s deputies have released few details about the incident. Area neighbors say a gunfight broke out during the invasion.

There are several businesses on the same lot as the mobile home. The owner of the lot and his daughter were sleeping when they heard the door being knocked down.

A woman who works on the lot said three or four armed men wearing masks yelled at the homeowner to get on the ground. The homeowner ended up exchanging gunfire with them.

“He grabbed his own weapon for self defense and he started shooting at them because they started shooting at him too,” the woman said.

Bullet holes were visible on the mobile home and a car parked in front.

Deputies said the suspects were driving an older-model SUV, possibly a Suburban, and a late 1990s pickup truck with chrome wheels.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the sheriff's office at 956-383-8114 or McAllen Crime Stoppers at 956-687-8477.
