Texas Self-Defense: Chubbuck man stabs pit bulls in self defense :: 10/17/2016

Patrol Officers and Animal Control Officer with the Chubbuck Police Department responded to an address on Scott St in Chubbuck in reference to two Pit Bulls that had been stabbed.

During our investigation we contacted witnesses and it was determined that an adult male was walking his Sheltie dog on a leash, at which point his dog was attacked by the two unrestrained Pit Bulls.  The male attempted to defend himself and his dog, who were both being attacked.  He then stabbed both Pit Bulls with his pocket knife in an attempt to stop the attack and protect himself and his dog.

Both Pit Bulls were transported to a local Veterinarian by our Animal Control Officer to be treated for their injuries.  One Pit Bull did succumb to their injuries upon arrival at the Vet the second was seriously injured and it is unknown if it will survive.  The owner of the Pit Bulls was not on scene however they were contacted during our investigation.

The male as well as his dog were both injured during the attack.  His dog was transported to a local vet where it was treated and will recover from the injuries it received.  The male had injuries to both of his hands and was also shaken by the incident.

At this time no charges have been filed in this case, therefore no names will be released.

In an attempt to avoid these situations we would encourage all dog owners to either keep their pets in a fenced area or on a leash at all times.  Anytime pets are running at large there is a potential for them or others to be injured.
