Tennessee Self-Defense: Attempted burglary suspect shot in arm by resident :: 03/19/2016

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police say an attempted burglary suspect was shot in the arm by a resident late Friday morning.

It happened just before 11 a.m. at Waterford Crossings on Old Franklin Road.

The resident heard repeated knocking at her door, and saw a man she did not know when she looked through the peephole.

She became concerned and hid in a closet in her bedroom with a .357 revolver.

While she was on the phone with 911, the intruder entered her apartment.

Moments later, the victim came face to face with Trenton Hartman as he opened the closet door.

She fired one shot in self defense and Hartman ran away.

Hartman, 24, went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The victim was able to identify him as the burglar when shown a photo lineup.

Hartman was treated and released, only to be charged with aggravated burglary.

His bond was set at $100,000.

At the time of the burglary. Hartman was free on $4,000 bond on a felony theft charge from an arrest in early March after he allegedly stole lottery tickets from a local convenience store.
