Tell whole story on guns :: 07/15/2022

Baffling people with BS is a job that the media and our government is very good at.

They hop on a soapbox and tell you how to think after a tragedy and then who, or what to blame. The sad thing is most people buy the BS. We have seen evidence of this within the pages of this very paper.

The facts don’t back up the rhetoric. There were 24,292 gun deaths in the U.S. in 2020 according to the CDC. Of those, 54% were suicides. Fifty-four percent equals roughly 12,500.

That leaves us with 24,292-12,500=11,792. Of the remaining number, 535 were accidents, 611 were from law enforcement. Now we are down to 10,646. It is very difficult to find stats on the use of self defense.

Let’s say it is 1% of all shooting or roughly 242. Now we are down to 10,404. Gang violence accounts for a large portion of the remaining number.

I didn’t track down the number. Of all gun related deaths, so called assault weapons, a made-up term to scare people, were responsible for 3% of the total deaths which is 726.

To compare, there are 329 million people in the United States and there are roughly 393 million guns owned by private individuals. While any death is tragic, advocating for the ban of a weapon that is statistically insignificant is more of a tragedy.

Now the people that are telling you to be concerned about guns, are the same people that refuse to do anything about the problems we have securing our southern border.

The southern border is where most dangerous drugs enter the U.S. If they are so concerned about life, why don’t they look at 56,064 deaths from opioids from April 2019 to April of 2020?

These are the same people that enjoy armed security around them when they are out and about.

Please wake up.
