LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man shot to death in the front yard of his South Carolina home appeared to be attacking his neighbor who then fired in self-defense.
Lexington Police Cpl. Cameron Mortenson said 31-year-old Derek Fogle went into another yard in his Lexington neighborhood around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and began yelling and threatening the homeowner.
Mortenson says the homeowner chased Fogle who threw him to the ground and started hitting him in the head.
Mortenson said in a news release the man then shot Fogle several times, called 911 and waited for police to arrive.
Mortenson says other neighbors reported Fogle yelling and knocking on doors and his roommate said he was attacked.
Authorities are waiting for toxicology and other tests. No charges have been filed.
