South Carolina Self-Defense: Argument between exes leads to shooting in Sumter :: 03/12/2016

SUMTER, SC (WBTW) – One person suffered what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries after being shot following a domestic incident at a home in Sumter Friday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when a father went to his ex-wife’s home to visit his sick child. After an argument between the man and his former wife, the father left and returned to his own home, says Ken Bell, Public Information Officer.

Members of the ex-wife’s family showed up at the father’s house with a weapon just before 5 p.m. Friday and threatened the father of the child. A person at the home shot a member of the wife’s family in what deputies say appears to be self-defense.

The shooting victim is being treated at Palmetto Health Tuomey Hospital, but that person’s condition was not immediately known.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be filed, adds Bell.
