Report: Taliban Begin Confiscating Civilian Arms as America Surrenders :: 08/16/2021

Residents of Kabul are being forced to surrender their guns.

The Taliban are now collecting weapons from civilians, according to a Reuters report. The brutal Islamic extremist regime with a decades-long track record of violent and brutal repression of civilians told residents of the newly-surrendered Capitol they no longer needed guns. The triumphant regime, famous for public beatings and executions of dissenters, assured the people of Kabul they no longer need their own firearms.

“We understand people kept weapons for personal safety,” a Taliban official told Reuters. “They can now feel safe. We are not here to harm innocent civilians.”

The group reportedly confiscated weapons from the security surrounding local news operation TOLO News, according to the outlet. The Taliban made the same promises of safety to the Kabul-based news station.

“Taliban entered the TOLOnews compound in Kabul, checked the weapons of the security staff, collected govt-issued weapons, agreed to keep the compound safe,” the outlet tweeted.

The gun confiscation comes as American forces entered the final stages of its abandonment of the country and those who had worked with them. Kabul quickly spiraled into chaos as the Taliban went from not controlling any province capitols to controlling them all in about a week. The withdraw, orchestrated under the previous administration but carried out after a delay under the current administration, turned into a calamity over the weekend as thousands of Afghan people rushed to the last remaining airport in the country under American control in an attempt to escape the Taliban.

Apparently unpersuaded by the Taliban’s promises of safety, several Afghan civilians fell to their death on Monday after desperately clinging to the side of an American military jet in an attempt to escape the country.

Thousands of American troops are being redeployed into the country to assist in the evacuation of some civilians. It is unclear how many will be evacuated given the long backlog in special visa applications, though. The rest will have to rely on the word of the Taliban.
