So what happens now after this week’s Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling clearing the way for more Californians to be able to get concealed weapons permits.
Getting a CCW as they call them to carry a gun for self-defense has not been easy.
Only a small number of people have been able to get them because many sheriffs including San Diego County’s Bill Gore have used the good cause clause in the law up until now, meaning you had to be in a dangerous business or being stalked.
But now most law abiding citizens, unless they’re a felon or are mentally ill, should be able to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
The backlog of applications will take a while to get through, but it seems clear now that more people in the county will be able carry guns with a concealed weapons permit.
So will this mean the Old West returns to the Gaslamp as the opponents of concealed weapons permits say?
Or will it mean less crime with bad guys less likely to rob or steal for fear of someone carrying a gun?
No one knows for sure but with the ruling this week, it looks like we’re all going to find out.
