Pennsylvania Self-Defense: Woman pulls out her gun during attempted robbery :: 10/28/2016

TAYLOR TOWNSHIP - A man attempting to rob a woman in Centre County on Wednesday night quickly realized he chose the wrong person.

Emma Troutman said she was getting something from her car when a man attacked her while she was in her driveway in Taylor Township around 11:30 p.m.

Troutman said the man grabbed her arm, pushed her head against the window, and demanded money.

Little did the suspect know, Emma Troutman is a trained law enforcement officer.

"I opened up the car, just the door a little bit, and he backed off - thinking I was getting my purse or something. I had my pistol inside the door. So I grabbed it with my one hand. And when I spun around and he saw I had that, he took off running."

Troutman said although the situation was terrifying, she's glad it happened to her and not someone else.

She believes the man was looking for an easy target.

“I think it was just someone out looking for...to make some quick money, maybe steal some stuff, and they saw me out there and thought, 'oh this will be easy.”

Troutman is the mother of two small children, and said he experience shows the situation can happen to anyone no matter when you live.

"If it would have happened to an elderly neighbor or someone that's a little more shy, I'm afraid something worse might have happened."

Police said they haven't been able to track down the man responsible for the attack, but the investigation is still on going.
