Pennsylvania Self-Defense: Homeowner shoots teen during Chester burglary attempt :: 12/12/2016

CHESTER >> A 31-year-old homeowner Wednesday shot one of two juveniles in the leg when he interrupted an apparent burglary, according to police.

The homeowner subsequently called 911 and the juvenile was transported to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, police Capt. Anita Amaro said, noting the incident remains under investigation.

The incident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of West Second Street.

According to Amaro, the sleeping homeowner was awakened by a noise inside the residence and proceeded to check it out, discovering the intruders.

At some point the homeowner fired a warning shot into the floor in an effort to scare off the juveniles, but one of the juveniles came toward him with a knife, Amaro said, citing preliminary information.

“The juvenile was shot in the left leg,” Amaro said.

The other juvenile ran from the scene.

The homeowner is cooperating with the investigation.
