Pennsylvania Self-Defense: Family unhurt after man shot, killed during attempted robbery :: 01/13/2020

BALDWIN BOROUGH, Pa. — A man shot and killed an armed man who tried to rob him Sunday night at his apartment in Baldwin Borough, investigators said.

Police were called shortly after 7 p.m. for a home invasion at the apartment on Rosewood Court.

Officers who responded to the scene determined the 25-year-old man who lives in the apartment shot the intruder, a 22-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 25-year-old’s fiance and 10-month-old child were also home at the time. None of them were hurt, police said.

Investigators learned the 22-year-old man, identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office as Joshua Long, of West Mifflin, had a handgun when he went to the apartment and tried to rob the victim. The victim then got his handgun and shot Long.

Once the investigation into the shooting is complete, detectives will consult with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed.

A 19-year-old man was stopped near the scene shortly after the shooting, police said. He was arrested on drug charges.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police tip line at 1-833-255-8477.
