Pennsylvania Self-Defense: Can You Hear Me Now? Off-Duty Officer Shoots Robber in T-Mobile Store :: 04/10/2016

A Philadelphia, PA robber wasn’t expecting an off-duty police officer to break up his connection with his would-be victim in a T-Mobile store Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred in the Ogontz section of the city around 2:20PM, police said.

A statement released by Officer Tanya Little gave the following account:

The officer, who was not immediately identified, saw a man armed with a handgun and robbing an elderly citizen.

The officer identified himself as police and ordered the male suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect pointed his weapon at the officer, but ran away.

The officer followed, chasing on foot. During that foot pursuit, the male pointed his gun again at the officer and fired, at which time the officer returned fire.

The two kept running, until the suspect collapsed at the corner of Broad and Chew.

He was taken to Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:06PM.

The officer was not injured and will be placed on desk duty while Police Homicide and Internal Affairs investigate the incident.
