Oregon Self-Defense: Would-be Portland robber wields knife, but victim pulls gun :: 06/10/2015

Police are looking for the man who threatened and demanded money from a woman on Gilman Street.

Police are looking for a man who they say used a knife to rob a woman on Gilman Street in Portland on Friday afternoon.

A 35-year-old Cumberland woman said she was walking to her car in the parking lot at 106 Gilman St., near Maine Medical Center, at 2:45 p.m. Friday when the robber approached her. He asked for money and threatened her with a knife after she said she had nothing to give him. The woman again told the man she didn’t have any money and then got in her car, where she had a handgun. She pointed the gun at the man and told him to leave her alone. The man left in an unknown direction. The victim drove away and later reported the incident to police.

The robber is described as a black man, 20 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a goatee and a short buzz-style haircut. He was wearing black baggy jeans, a navy blue T-shirt and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Portland police at 874-8575.
