Oregon Self-Defense: Woman scares off attacker with gunshot, Portland Police says :: 04/03/2017

PORTLAND, Ore. – A 45-year-old is facing domestic violence charges after police say he hurt a woman in Northeast Portland early Sunday morning.

Officers arrived at the house on NE 79th Avenue just before 4 a.m. to find a woman with a knee injury, holding two guns.

She told police that David Stephens, a convicted felon, hurt her and threatened her with a firearm. Police didn't specify how the two were related.

Police said she managed to take a gun away from him and fired it into the air, scaring him off.

Officers found Stephens and took him into custody; he was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on felon in possession of a firearm, domestic violence – menacing, and domestic violence – assault.

Officers took Stephens’ gun as evidence and the woman asked that they take her gun for safe-keeping.
