A homeowner shot and killed a man who allegedly tried to break into his home on Sunday night, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the shooting happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday at a home on 45th Avenue Northeast near Iberis Street.
The homeowner, a 62-year-old man, was at home with his adult daughter and two grandchildren when the alleged break-in took place, the sheriff's office said.
"A 911 caller reported an unknown male was trying to break into the home before a resident shot the intruder," the sheriff's office said.
Deputies said they found Peter Bishop, 42, of Salem, had been fatally shot.
None of the people inside the home were hurt.
The shooting investigation is ongoing, and will be forwarded to the Marion County District Attorney's Office for review, authorities said.
