One woman's tips for carrying a concealed handgun :: 05/01/2015

Like a New Year’s resolution, Tanya Lewis says she made a change in 2015. “I came  from the other side.  I could not stand guns.  I was very anti-gun,” she told WGNO News before a practice session at the Shooter’s Club gun range in Harahan.  Then Lewis revealed what happened that brought the change.  “I got held up in December.”

Lewis was one of a series of people who were attacked during the holiday season in the French Quarter.  Her attack, along with the others, brought calls for action to increase safety.

But Lewis decided to take on more of the responsibility herself.  She now has her concealed carry permit, allowing her to carry a handgun for self-defense.  She’s also dedicated to improving her knowledge and proficiency with firearms.

Lewis is also one of a growing number of women in Louisiana and across the country who are enrolling in training courses and carrying concealed handguns.

If you or someone you know is interested, Lewis has some suggestions on how to safely carry a handgun.  Click on the video button above for her tips.
