Ohio Self-Defense: Woman fatally shoots man, says she was assaulted, Cleveland police say :: 07/25/2021

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police are investigating after a man was shot to death by a woman who says the victim was assaulting her.

The 33-year-old woman tells police the victim, identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office as Andre Bello, 41, of Cleveland, was the father of her child and that she had a protection order against him.

The shooting occurred at about noon Friday on the 2300 block of East 90th Street in the Fairfax neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found Bello dead of a gunshot wound to the chest, police say.

The woman, who was not at the scene, then phones officers while they were there and told police she had shot Bello, police say. The woman tells officers a domestic dispute between her and Bello occurred and she accused Bello of assaulting her before the shooting.

No arrests have been made. The case has been turned over to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation.
