MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — A Middletown woman fought off a would-be robber, beating him with the butt of her gun early Monday morning.
The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 3100 block of Yale Drive.
The homeowner, Louise Jones, told police that she was in bed when she heard a noise in her kitchen. Jones, who is in her 70s, went downstairs to check on the noise, only to find an arm reaching through her window.
Jones said she ran to grab her gun and called 911.
Jones told police she then began to beat the man, trying to keep him from entering her home.
"I started scratching, digging at his skin, pushing him just knocking the crap out of him with my fists, and he couldn’t get in or out of the window," Jones said.
Jones said she hit the man with the butt of her gun.
"I don’t ever want to kill a person but if I have to, I will,” she said. “And I don’t believe that any woman or young girl that’s being attacked should run. Because she’s going to be killed anyways, I believe she should fight back."
The man eventually ran from the home, police said. Officials said the man dropped his hat during the break-in attempt. Police collected it as evidence.
Officials said dogs were called to the area, and the man was tracked to Tytus Avenue.
So far, no arrests have been made.
