YOUNGSTOWN — Police say the man killed at an Oak Street bar at 2 a.m. Sunday was shot by a bar employee who has a valid concealed carry handgun permit.
Chief of Detectives Capt. Brad Blackburn said Ezequiel Rivera, 21, was killed after he was kicked out of Mi Raza bar and came back with a shotgun and fired two rounds. He was then shot by a bar employee who has the CCW permit, Blackburn said.
According to a release from Mahoning County Coroner David Kennedy's office, an autopsy on Rivera is scheduled for Tuesday.
Also wounded was the victim’s brother-in-law, who was shot in the back by the employee.
Blackburn said the person who was wounded was trying to "defuse" the situation when he was shot.
Blackburn said detectives are conferring with prosecutors to see if charges should be filed or if the employee will not be charged because he acted in self defense.
