Ohio Self-Defense: Home invasion suspect shot, killed in Cleveland :: 08/16/2016

CLEVELAND - A man was killed on the city's east side on Sunday after he broke into a home and was shot by a man living at the residence.

According to Cleveland police, officers were patrolling the area of East 78th Street and Donald Avenue on Sunday for an unrelated report of shots fired when they were flagged down by the resident, telling them a man was shot in his backyard.

Witnesses at the scene said 35-year-old Antonio L. Sanford forced his way into a residence in the 1100 block of East 78th Street, looking for his ex-girlfriend. Once inside, there was a struggle with the man who lived at the home—45-year-old Carlos Corbin.

During the struggle, police said, the intruder was shot in the chest.

Officers found Sanford responsive, Cleveland police said. They provided medical treatment until EMS arrived and took the victim to University Hospitals where he died.

This case is being investigated as a homicide.
