Ohio Self-Defense: Belmont Market manager holds would-be robber at gunpoint :: 10/14/2016

A Cleveland man is arrested in connection to the shooting earlier this month of two Miami University students.

Patrick J. Belinson, 27, was booked today into the Butler County Jail on suspicion of two counts each of complicity to felonious assault and complicity to aggravated robbery. Detectives are still searching for at least one other suspect, police said.

The charges stem from the shooting around 7:40 p.m. at 210 N. Campus Ave. of 20-year-old students Jared Goldhamer and Volodymyr Kovalenko, who were both shot in the legs. They have since been released from McCullough Hyde Memorial and West Chester hospitals, according to Oxford police.

It was initially reported to officers that the two suspects came to the off-campus residence for a prior arranged vehicle sale. Subsequent investigation revealed the transaction was approximately $4,000 in marijuana. During the drug deal, one suspect pulled out a firearm and fired three rounds, striking Goldhamer and Kovalenko. The suspects then fled with the cash.

The second suspect is described as a man with his hair in dreadlocks who stands about 5 feet, 11 inches and weighs 190 pounds. Anyone with information is urged to contact Oxford police detective Sgt. David King, 513-524-5240.
