Ohio Self-Defense: Akron couple holds home burglar at gunpoint :: 10/18/2016

AKRON - A burglar attempting to invade an Akron couple's home was held at gunpoint by the couple until police arrived.

DeJuan McCraney, 38, entered a home at the 500 block of Cordova Avenue Sunday.

The homeowners, a 61-year-old man and his 43-year-old wife, were asleep in their bedroom around 7 a.m. when they heard a noise. They assumed the sound was a family member returning home and ignored it, until the suspect entered their bedroom.

The man and woman both grabbed weapons and held McCraney at gunpoint until police came.

When police searched the home, they also found McCraney's jacket on the couch. A loaded handgun was inside the jacket.

McCraney was arrested for aggravated burglary and having a weapon under disability. Police say he was convicted of attempted murder in 2001.
