A security contractor who was given the job last week to take pictures of damaged pipeline equipment near Standing Rock, North Dakota, pulled a gun as he was approached by protesters, some of whom were armed with knives.
Kyle Thompson, who never fired a single shot, will not face charges, as authorities determined he acted in self-defense after his truck was run off of the road and set on fire.

Protesters have occupied the area in opposition against an oil pipeline being built near what is being deemed as historical and sacred land of Native Americans.
