North Carolina Self-Defense: Homeowner shoots armed intruder, man in critical condition :: 02/08/2023

A homeowner shot an armed man who broke into their house, officers said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting on Andrews Street around 4 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located the homeowner standing in the front yard, armed with a shotgun.

A white man was found laying in the yard with a gunshot to the neck.

The man laying in the yard was identified as Daniel Brown, 26.

During an investigation, officers found that Brown had broken into the residence through the front door, armed with a handgun.

After entering the residence, Brown was confronted by the homeowner, who fired one shot, striking Brown in the neck.

He was transported by Surry County EMS to a hospital for treatment of his injury.

Brown is listed as being in critical condition.

The homeowner is not facing criminal charges in this shooting.
