New York Self-Defense: Homeowner Shoots Home Intruder :: 04/25/2016

A homeowner in Fredonia, NY came face to face with a pair of home intruders early early Saturday morning.

According to Fredonia Police, the homeowner was awakened shortly after 2am by a man and woman inside his closed porch pounding on his door. The man went to the door with his legally-owned handgun as the two suspects gained entry into his home.

Police said the three then exchanged words inside the home as the homeowner repeatedly told the pair to leave while holding his gun drawn on them.

WGRZ reports:

As the male and female suspect attempted to leave in a car, the homeowner went out onto the front steps to try and get vehicle information.  The homeowner told police the man jumped out of the driver’s seat, charged the homeowner and threatened him.

The homeowner fired several shots and hit the male suspect.  It’s unclear how many times he was shot.

The injured suspect then got back into the vehicle and drove off.

After the homeowner called police, officers located and stopped the vehicle in the downtown district.  The suspect who was shot was first treated at the scene and then taken to ECMC by Starflight.

Dunkirk Police and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office helped at the scene.
