New York City Self-Defense: Off-duty officer's cousin uses cop's gun to shoot robber :: 08/17/2016

The cousin of an off-duty police officer used the cop’s gun to shoot a thief who was trying to rob them outside a Brooklyn bar early Tuesday, police sources said.

Officer Khaleef Allicott was walking to his car with his girlfriend and cousin Travis Dominique, 25, at 12:30 a.m. when two men – one armed with a gun – accosted them near the corner of Prospect Place and 6th Avenue, sources said.

Allicott, who works in the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights, allegedly shoved the thief away when he tried to snatch a gold chain from around his neck, sources said.

During the struggle, Dominique retrieved the gun from his cousin’s car and then shot one of the crooks in the leg, police said.

The injured robber, identified as 34-year-old Augusta Clay, hobbled into to Methodist Hospital about 30 minutes later.

Charges are pending against Clay, who is currently on parole until 2021. Dominique also faces possible arrest, sources said.

The cop, meanwhile, could face disciplinary charges for not securing his gun and allowing the weapon to fall into the hands of a civilian.

Surveillance video shows the robbers menacing Allicot with a gun, sources said. Three shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Prior to the robbery, the group had been hanging out at a bar about a block away on Flatbush Avenue called Bleachers Sports Bar and Grill.

It’s not clear if they were intoxicated at the time of the attempted robbery.
