New Mexico Self-Defense: BCSO investigating shooting during domestic violence incident :: 02/20/2017

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting near Isleta and Bridge Saturday night.

A large police presence was in the area of 705 Nashville SW for several hours. BCSO officials said that at least one person was killed.

BCSO says the shooting started as a domestic violence incident. They say a woman involved shot her boyfriend, claiming self-defense.

"We're veering a little bit more towards self-defense.  Of course, we have some evidence and other investigation and interviews to do," said Sgt. John Allen.

The woman is reported to have only fired a single shot.

Her boyfriend has been identified as Guillermo Mendez. BCSO says Mendez died as a result of the shot.

The woman is not being charged at this time.
