Nebraska Self-Defense Shooting: Wanted Felon Breaks Into Nebraska Home, Father Grabs Gun and Defends His 4 Year Old Daughter :: 09/10/2014

A man who was wanted by police attempted to break into an Omaha, Nebraska home this week.  Darrell W. Miller, the suspect, probably didn't realize that the resident of the home, Larry Rohatsch, was prepared to use lethal force to defend his four year old daughter who was also home at the time.

According to local media reports,

Ann Gray, who lives nearby, said she heard Rohatsch's daughter tell police that she was in bed when the doorbell rang twice. The girl said she heard the door get kicked in, then saw a man standing outside the bathroom with something in his hand, "and my daddy shot him."

Miller was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound by responding authorities. They attempted to transport Miller to an area hospital, but he died from his injuries.

Miller, in addition to having a current warrant out for his arrest, had also served multiple prior prison sentences for other crimes.

This seems like a very clear cut case of self defense and it seems extremely unlikely that the father would face any sort of charges in relation to the incident.

Don Kleine [ed. note: DA] said that after reviewing the police investigation, he decided that no charges will be filed against Larry Rohatsch, 48.
