Mississippi Self-Defense: Teen shot to death in Jackson allegedly breaking into vehicle :: 07/22/2016

Jackson police say a 17-year-old male died from gunshot wounds Thursday afternoon.

Police arrived around 12:30 p.m. at Performance Oil Equipment Inc. located at 920 East McDowell Road. Officers learned that Charles McDonald had been shot multiple times in the upper torso. McDonald was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, JPD Commander Tyree Jones said.

McDonald was allegedly burglarizing a vehicle described as a gray Lexus ES 350 sedan that was parked at the business. A man at the business, armed with a handgun, approached McDonald and attempted to stop him, Commander Jones said. There was a struggle between the McDonald and the man. During the struggle McDonald was shot. The shooter was questioned and later released. There were no other injuries reported. The Lexus sustained damage that was consistent with an auto burglary.

The identity of the man who shot the teenager is not being disclosed at this time and no charges will be filed against him. The case will go to a Hinds County grand jury.

Jones told media that McDonald had been driven to the Henley Young Juvenile Justice Center which is next door to Performance Oil. It is not known why the teen was brought there.
