LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) — A quiet community in Lee County is in shock following a shooting late Wednesday afternoon.
It happened around 5:20 p.m. at a home just off of North Veterans Blvd.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says three men tried to break into this home on County Road 1534 Wednesday afternoon.
But someone inside the home shot one of the men, leaving him in critical condition at the hospital.
"Two other individuals were here that fled the scene," Johnson said. "The last information we had they were driving in or riding around in a four door purple Cadillac with large chrome wheels on it."
Many of the neighborhood residents in the area expressed that things are usually peaceful.
"It's just a quiet neighborhood over here," said Khaywon McCoy. "It surprised me that something like this happened."
Samantha Tutor is the mother of someone who lives in the home and arrived quickly after learning about what had happened.
She says about a week ago, three individuals tried breaking into the same house.
"I feel safe, but I don't feel safe for my son and he is coming to live with me," Tutor said. "We had already planned that. This is not safe."
Investigators are trying to figure out if this attempted burglary is related to the one Tutor mentioned.
