Michigan Self-Defense: Woman shoots carjacking suspect on Detroit's west side :: 06/09/2015

Detroit — A woman shot a suspect during an attempted carjacking early Monday on the city’s west side, police said.

An armed man approached the 27-year-old woman around 5:30 a.m. on the 11400 block of Auburn, Officer Jennifer Moreno said.

“He attempted to carjack her at gunpoint,” Moreno said. “She pulled her gun and shot the suspect.”

The injured man fled the scene on foot, Moreno said. Police are searching for him early Monday.

“There was blood found at the scene, so she did hit him,” Moreno said, adding it is unclear how severely the suspect was injured.

Police K-9s were called to help with the search, Moreno said.

“Scout cars are checking the area and they’ve cordoned off the area for dogs to search,” she said.

The woman was uninjured, Moreno said. She immediately drove herself to the nearby Sixth Precinct to report the incident.

Police have no further description of the suspect.
