Michigan Self-Defense: Man fires warning shot to fend off roommate's hammer attack, police say :: 03/08/2016

MECOSTA COUNTY, MI – Police say a man fired a warning shot to fend off his roommate, who was trying to break down his bedroom door with a hammer.

The roommate with the hammer, a 24-year-old, was arrested for aggravated assault.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. Monday, March 7, in Mecosta County's Green Township.

The roommates were arguing when a 23-year-old locked himself in his bedroom. The other man tried to get in, then got a hammer and began pounding his way through the door. His roommate braced himself against the door to keep it closed.

When the hammer went through the door and nearly hit the 23-year-old's head, he fired off a warning shot.

Sheriff's deputies arrived soon and arrested the man with the hammer.
