Baltimore County Police respond to a shooting scene in a parking lot outside the Walmart on Petrie Way Road.

Baltimore County police say a 20-year-old Rosedale man who died Sunday was fatally shot in a Walmart parking lot after he attempted to rob someone.

Baltimore County Police spokeswoman Ofc. Jennifer Peach said on Sunday that the department was called to the Golden Ring Shopping Center at 6420 Petrie Way Road in the Rossville area just after 5:20 p.m. for a shooting.

When police arrived, Peach said, they found Kumar Jumar Burney suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Peach said Burney, of the 5300 block of King Arthur Circle, was transported with life-threatening injuries to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where he later died.

Police said Burney arranged a meetup in the parking lot with a man he found on a popular app selling an expensive pair of shoes. During the transaction, police said, Burney attempted to rob the seller, who pulled a handgun, shot Burney once, then called 9-1-1 and remained at the scene.
