FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man accused of breaking-in to a home in Frankfort was shot by the homeowner and later died, according to Frankfort Police.
Investigators say around 9:35 a.m. on Tuesday, 911 received a call from a homeowner saying someone had broken-in to his house in the 300 block of Wallace Avenue and that he had shot the intruder. Police say the two didn’t know each other.
Police say the suspect, 35-year old Stephen Smallwood, was found shot at the scene. He was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center and then transferred to UK Hospital in Lexington, where he died from the gunshot wound.
The Fayette County coroner says Smallwood died at 5:03 p.m. The coroner ruled the manner of death a homicide.
Frankfort Police say the investigation is ongoing.
