Iowa Self-Defense: Woman tells police she shot ex-boyfriend, authorities say :: 05/14/2019

DES MOINES, Iowa - Emergency crews were called to a report of a man shot in Des Moines Monday afternoon.

It happened around 12:20 p.m. in the 1400 block of Dean Avenue.

According to police, the victim is an ex-boyfriend who was in the home.

A woman there shot him in the chest. She then called 911.

Police have been called to the house 11 times in the last six months.

No charges have been filed at this time. The shooting is under investigation.

Des Moines police said based on what the woman told them, charges are not likely, suggesting the shooting may have been in self-defense.

KCCI's Alex Schuman saw the victim walking and talking with emergency crews. He had apparently been shot in the chest. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

No names have been released yet.
